Kublai Khan was born in Mongolia in 1215 as the fourth son of Tolui, the son of Genghis Khan.
In 1251, Kublai’s brother, Mongke became the Great Khan, and Kublai was appointed governor of Northern China.
Kublai was elected as the new Great Khan in 1260 after Mongke’s death.
He moved the capital of the Mongol Empire to China and founded the Yuan Dynasty in 1271.
Kublai implemented reforms to unify China, promoted commerce and agriculture, and established a new legal code.
Despite his efforts, he faced resistance from Chinese officials and scholars.
Kublai waged unsuccessful wars against Japan and Vietnam.
He died in 1294 at the age of 79.
His grandson, Temur Khan, succeeded him.
The Yuan Dynasty lasted until 1368, when it was overthrown by the Ming Dynasty.
